Government Help For Single Parents

The law acknowledges that single parents face responsibilities that are much more complicated than families with two parents, hence the provision for financial assistance.
Single parents are growing in number throughout the country and all over the world. In fact, More women are opting to raise children on their own without getting married.
All single parents qualify for government assistance, particularly those who are in dire need of financial help. To apply for aid, the single parent must first secure and fill out an application form that they can get from the nearest city hall. The application forms should be honestly and completely filled out because the information submitted will be verified and will determine his or her eligibility for the assistance being offered.
While all single parents are eligible for government help programs for single mothers, there are certain guidelines that need to be fulfilled. Financial assistance will only be given to those single mothers who truly need it and not to those who don't need it.
Here are some of the types of government help single mother:
*state child care subsidies
*low-income home energy assistance program (LIHEAP)
*Women, Infant and Children's Program (WIC)
*Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF)
Who qualifies:
Single parents who qualify for government financial help are those who have been divorced or the other parent is handicapped, seriously disabled, or deceased. If the other parent is imprisoned, the custodial parent may apply for government support. Single parents whose children had been born out of wedlock or if the father has not been identified may qualify. Single-parent families where one parent has abandoned them for about a year may apply.
Who is excluded:
The following situations will exclude the single parent from obtaining government sponsored financial assistance:
*the child is being supported by the single parent's partner.
*the single parents is already receiving pensions for his or her disability or for other reasons.
*the child is being cared for by foster parents.
*the child is waiting to claim an inheritance from one or both of his or her parents.
