Single Mother Scholarships and Federal Grants

from: Karlie Bestler

A single mother can access a scholarship or federal grant to attend a college or university. The fear that they cannot afford the tuition fee is one of the main factors stopping many single parents, especially single mothers, from furthering their education.

Information on finding single mother college or university scholarship and federal grants can be found by searching online, visiting a library, inquiring at federal agencies and inquiring with colleges and universities directly. To make finding information on single mother scholarships and federal grants easier, there are some tricks as to how you go about searching.

First, narrow your search by focusing on the single mother college or university scholarships and federal grants that best suit you. For instance, if you plan on studying not too far from home, do not search for out-of-state single mother college or university scholarships. Both federal grants and other financial aid can be found for studying in your home state. In your search, do not assume that if the information about a scholarship or federal grant does not specifically state that it is for single mothers that you cannot apply. Ask questions about any scholarship or federal grant that seems to meet your other criteria.

You will also need to know how to apply for a single mother college or university scholarship or a federal grant. The way you write your application and the type of information you provide can make the difference between getting the financial aid you need and being denied. Do not leave out pertinent information that may give you the edge over another applicant.

Many colleges and universities offer single mother scholarships and federal grants, and single mothers are eligible for applying as well as students just out of high school. Both mature and young mothers can access some the single mother scholarships and federal grants that are available, but many of these scholarships or federal grants are specifically for older, more mature students in special circumstances.

Once you have made a list of the colleges and universities that you are interested in attending, you can search their websites for scholarship information. If you do not understand all the information on the website or you need clarification, contact their financial aid office. If the college or university does not offer single mother scholarships and federal grants, they may know where you can get help.

Finally, be on the alert for single mother college or university scholarship or federal grant scams. Single mothers are prime victims because they are looking for ways to better themselves. The Federal Trade Commission is one agency that provides information to help scholarship seekers avoid some of the scams.
